Hey guys,
Cheers for making Alex and myself feel welcome last night.
So I brought Smog down to demo to some of you guys. Some got stuck in and played, whilst others asked many questions. Sorry if I was unable to answer them all fully.
The main questions seem to be as follows:
Q1 Where can I buy the game and the minis?
A1 Here: www.smartmaxstore.com/
Q2 How much is the game?
A2 27.50 euros, but you will find some distributors in the UK too. I've ordered direct many times now and orders are always on time.
Q3 How many minis do I need?
A3 Playing a 2 player game with 3 minis each is much like a 1K game of 40K. 4/5 minis each is like 1500 points of 40K.
I tend to play with 200 points in Smog game terms; 200 points means that those who want to can squeeze in 4 or 5 low level characters or 2 high level characters and 1 low level.
High level characters are about 70 to 100 points each. Low level ones range from 35 to 65 points.
Q4 How much are the minis?
A4 Anywhere from £13 to £27 - you only need a few each for decent games.
I often buy from Smartmax direct at Salute; the French designers will always do you a deal if you buy a few minis like 20% off.
Q5 What mini restrictions are there?
A5 None. Take what you like the look of; think League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen etc... I personally like to play factions e.g. the Cult would never side with the Wheel according to the fluff, but it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It's a fun game and not easy to abuse rules wise.
Q6 Do they make better boards?
A6 Nope. The board is deliberately such as they'd prefer you scratch built one. All you have to do is divide the surface into even squares; draw the lines with a pencil or something. The board can look like whatever. I once built a 3D one using Terraclips (had to double height everything to get the scale) and it was real nice.
Q7 How many players and go at it?
A7 Up to 4 simultaneously, but frankly the rules cater for unlimited. They cap the game at 4 because of the size of the starter set board. Best to stick to 200 points in multi-player games else it'll slow right down.
Q8 What factions are there?
A8 The Wheel, Cult, Embasy, Pit, Club, Dragon and Mekazylum
Q9 Is the game established?
A9 I've played it for around 4 years now I believe.
Q10 Do Smartmax make other games?
A10 They're currently producing minis for the futuristic version called Mauzer Earth; lots of minis are out but no rules yet - pos rules this Christmas.
That's it for now. If anyone has anymore more questions then fire away.
Later,
Liam Young from South Downs Siegebreakers
