Firstly if you are not sure what the Tale of 6 Gamers here is a brief description from the initial Facebook post
Some of us were chatting at the club about the hobby side of Warmahordes instead of the usual tournament focus and this spawned the idea of using the old white dwarf tale of gamers articles to provide a bit of painting focus and incentive in the new year.
As a result we've all vowed to collect and paint a 35 points force over 6 months with points allotted each month for progress and ending the month with a hobby game somewhat different to the usual Warmahordes scenarios. Month 1 - Indecision: Every Gamers Difficult Choice
So after deciding to be part of To6g's I had my first decision to make, which faction to use. I currently play the Warmachine faction Retribution of Scyrah and decided a number of months ago that I wanted to try a Hordes faction and after looking at the range made my first purchases towards the Blindwater Congregation, Bloody Barnabas and a Blackhide Wrastler. I thought that the timing fitted perfectly with the To6g's but looking at my collection I realised I needed to make a decision that every gamer is going to face on some point
Do I finish my current faction or move onto something new?
I looked at my shelf and realised that I have not painted any of my Retribution Jacks, If they were lucky they have been undercoated but most are just bare plastic. Why is this? I have a colour scheme I have used for my Casters and units but I have not been able to decide how to use the same palette of colours on the Jacks so I have just not bothered. For only the addition of a few models I have enough Retribution to be able to field a full 35pt list (and with substitutions at the different points levels I think I will get a new 50pts list). I won't posts the list I have been thinking about as this is much more about the hobby/painting side of the hobby with some fun games as opposed to power listing. My decision will be based on what I want to commit to painting for the next few months. So the sensible decision would be to finish them...
BUT
For the Blindwater Congregation (Gators) I am in the complete opposite position, I only have 2 models but I know exactly what colour scheme I am planning to use on them. I'm really excited about painting these models and can't believe that I have managed to hold off starting them. I am worried that once I start painting the Gators I might not get round to finishing my Retribution models.
So I'm after some advice and opinions, How would you paint the Retribution Jacks based on the scheme I have already started? I'm hoping that this will help me get motivated to finish what I have. I will then still have the difficult decision of which faction to use for To6g's . Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Here is an example of the colours I will need to use and a picture of the studio Scheme Jacks. As you can see I use Teal for the armour and grey and Khaki for clothing for the solos etc.

I'm sure everyone has a different view but im firmly of the opinion that you have to be enthused about your current painting project or else it will be a bit of a chore and not enjoyable. I can only paint when I'm excited about the project as this motivation sees me through. As long as its affordable to build the new faction, this is the way id go but not everyone is the same. Some people like a single focused force with all the options. It really boils down to whether you'll enjoy To6G if you have to force yourself to paint. That said if you do a tester model and find a nice scheme for your jacks you may find your enthusiasm for them.

That's why I'm hoping someone might help with a scheme that can get me motivated. Played around with a few ideas but nothing has hit the mark yet. Over time both factions will be completed but will never get the Retribution finished if I cant decide how to paint them, perhaps someone has some outside of the box thinking. There is always the option of painting both casters with theirstarting jack/beast and see how it goes before making a final decision.

I think the main colour on your jacks should be the blue, what you would benefit from is having an accent colour for any glowing effects, which could be a very bright blue or contrasting colour like a pink, purple or orange. Parts of the jacks can be painted in the camo colour or black to pick out certain details or aid depth as the panels are very smooth and continuous. This would tie the whole scheme together and also give you freedom to switch the main colour between blue/camo/black and maintain the overall look.

I would be tempted to go the reverse of your solos ,using khaki for the main bits with the teal as a highlight

So for the Tale of 6 Gamers I have decided to go with Retribution and play lists based on Kaelyssa Force Wall (NQ54) Tier lists. This list has the ability to tier 3 at the 15pt level and tier 4 for all of the higher point levels. This will be very different to the Retribution list I normally run as I have generally used high infantry numbers with lots of stealth and the ability to ignore LOS.
From 20pts I am planning to use the following as the core to the force *Kaelyssa (+7pts) *2 heavy Myrmidons *House Shyeel Artificer *Unit of House Shyeel Battle Mages *free Archanists (1 per Myrmidon)
To give myself flexibility I'm currently planning to paint the following Myrmidons 2 x Hydra 2 x Manticore 1 x Phoenix 2 x Griffon 1 x Chimera 1 x Aspis
When I get to the higher point values not sure if I will need to add in a second unit of Battle Mages. Will have to see how playing the list goes.
As for the first game Rumble I am currently painting a Hydra as never used one before but if I get time I also aim to paint the Pheonix. The Pheonix would have a lot of upsides in this game but I think it might be a too obvious choice.
