Ok so as an Ork player the Aegis wall can be a real pain in the green backside.
Trawling through lots of battle reports from 40k games around the world i read that a player lost his troops holding an Aegis line with Hydra in an assault. The opposing player then used the guys own Hydra to shoot down his flyer because the opposing players troops now had the Aegis wall and Hydra!
Is this possible? I've looked through the rule book and not found anything yet that says unmanned defenses can be used by either player.
I know that crewed weapons are different as in all crew killed the weapon is defunct.

Hi there - yes it's plausible - there is a bit that talks about fortifications/ weapons and how a model needs to be in B2B contact to use it but either player can gain control of it.
It is also worth noting (which alot of people don't consider) that all fortifications (incl guns) except for the aegis def line (again excluding the gun) can be targeted and charged/shot at just like a regular unit. I think it has the rules of an artillery piece so 7T 2W 3+ if you really needed to get rid of it.
it works much the same way as if you walked into an enemies bastion if unoccupied and started blasting away with the HB's

Yes, the aegis and gun are classed as 'battlefield debris' and as such can be fired by any model whether they bought it or not. All they have to do is move into base contact in the movement phase (as long as the opponent isn't already in base contact with it).
