Not sure really, circle came first at the last masters i think but not sure. cryx has the rep as the tough guys but i think all armies can be beaten with a little luck and a good match up. I know my farrow will suffer vs bane knights as dont have the stuff to deal with them unless i can flame one and catch the rest in the spray ?

Cryx and Legion are popular and very strong.
Pretty much every faction has it's 'power list', but those two just win, win, win!
Circle with the new Epic Morvanha are good, as are Cygnar with Epic Haley and the Stormwall.

Cryx and Legion have more of a 'point & click' playstyle than the rest of the factions, which often need a bit of work to get their synergies and combos running. Menoth is also pretty powerful due to the sheer number of synergies and combos they can play, but they can be shut down somewhat if you pick off their support unit(s).
I'd say that the factions are generally balanced well enough that two equally skilled players will have a fair and fun game regardless of what they're playing (unless one of them is playing Retribution or Minions, which most people say are the weakest factions). Cryx and Legion are definitely easier to play, but not necessarily better than everyone else.

This game was sold to me based on it's balance amongst the factions. To then be told that the factions I'd picked based on aesthetics were the strongest, did make me chuckle!
I think Cryx can seem very straight forward, but the devil is in the details. Activation sequences and synergies are often a lot more complex than they seem once you start playing them, when compared to batreps piloted by pros online...

I do think they all work well plus it can be sometimes how you have built your list as more than one army has been built to take out a paticular faction what then makes it weak against all the rest.
Usually the only time a faction suffers is when it has limited models due to being brand new and even then it usually has the advantage of the unknown.

I have Cryx, Menoth, Legion & Skorne. Cryx makes everything easy because they are just so dependable. Mechanithralls are one of those units that, when supported by a stitch thrall unit, can do a lot of hurt! For me though, my confidence is in my Skorne. They have punch and power, flexibility and grace. I lean towards Morghoul at the moment, but I have played with eHexeris to satisfying results and have my eye on more 'casters.

After seeing what circle can do they scare me and it's not simple the way they work but when they get it right then you got awesome heavy beasts right next to your caster and you can't shoot them because the battle groups have stealth and 10 clouds out front blocking line of sight

Got to say having looked the new factions do worry me in Warmachine.
