Having saved up some birthday money I managed to buy the starter set cheap (sat in my living room) and then find an OK deal shopping around on 3 expansions an X-Wing, a TIE and a TIE Advanced all of which I'm told are being dispatched from shop today.
Figure this gives a fairly even spread and gets me 2/3 of the way to 100 points each side and at least able to play more interesting 60 point games at home.
There are now 2 things looming.............
1) Would anyone like a game, I'm busy this Thursday 22nd Jan but could then probably devote a couple of weeks to X-Wing and re-inforcing the basics possibly borrowing a ship or two to round out my force to 100?
2) Where to go next (I know common question)! Realistically I don't have the money for another major hobby game and so buying 300 points a side to add loads of variety to my lists isn't an option even if waiting for Salute. Sensibly I'm thinking stick on the rebel side to typical film (real 3 iterations) force by getting another starter set (partly for dice and templates etc.) and a Falcon giving me 3 X-Wings (including expansion cards) plus the Falcon and thus a couple lists to tweak. Does anyone have any major "oh you must get one B-Wing" type comments or does that sound like will be a sensible start for what will at least for now be the side used by friends for friendly games (unless they are desperate to play Imperials)?
On the Imperial side I'm worried I'll go a bit crazy and over-board so might stick to the 1 Advanced plus 5 basic TIEs (including expansion) for a while and then go to Salute looking for goodies with a budget! Again is that sensible for list/lists or is there one particular tip to include something while learning the game? Maybe lists are generally 7 ships and I could do with a cheap TIE without extra cards or 2nd expansion?
Last thing is more of a 'worth asking on off chance' point........ there is an ebay seller who does the ships a tiny bit cheaper but without some of the cards, lots of people selling just the equipment/pilot cards....... is there any expansion I desperately need just the cards from or is anybody trying to get rid on the cheap either a couple ships or cards that are basically never getting used because you only wanted them for the other part of the package at the club? Is there some advice like you must get the card that comes in this expansion etc? Or somebody trying to shift some unwanted/excess stuff cheap to a new player?
Cheers all
Mike
