As Malifaux is growing in popularity at 1066 I am planning to run a few different events to whet our competitive appetites.
With the success of the last Shootout Tourney, I think that another in a few weeks is definitely in order. For those who didn't play last time, it is a small game format where you pick a Henchman to lead your crew, and spend 20ss on exactly 3 other minis and upgrades. The strategy is Turf War and there is only one scheme which is Assassinate. The games are timed so we can fit enough into one evening. The format is pretty beginner friendly but it helps to be on top of the rules enough to keep up the pace.
If you are not yet on the Wyrd forum - wyrd-games.net/community/forums - I recommend you sign up. It gives you access to a lot of useful information and downloads. Currently they are open beta testing the new campaign rules which I definitely think we should play very soon. The general idea is that you decide on a pool of minis which you can then use to hire from for games. As you play successive games you will earn more points which can be used to add minis to your pool of available minis. Models which are injured in the games may end up with persistent wounds or might even be killed which affects your pool of minis for later games. This campaign system would probably best be run over about 8-10 weeks and would require perhaps 6 or so games each.
As we are accumulating quite a few new players it may be worth looking into Wyrd's official Rapid Growth league format. This is a league format, normally played over 4 games, where the winning and losing of the games is less relevant to the final scores. Instead league points are earned by game achievements which range from playing with a newly painted mini to borrowing another crew for a game to playing a turn with your hand revealed. There are loads of achievements which look a lot of fun to see how many you can squeeze into a game.
I will be asking around about these possibilities to gauge interest and pick suitable dates.
